How did I become a pole dancing maven? This is my story..
Pole Dancing is an art form that weaves together the diverse
experiences of my life! In 1999, I moved to Los Angeles to attend
UCLA, where I earned my B.A. in Psychology. While working with children
on the autism spectrum, I investigated art and dance as a therapeutic
form.
In 2004, after experiencing the Burning Man Festival, I was inspired to
learn both the art of fire dancing and pole dancing. I was entranced by
acrobatic yet seductive movements of pole dancers. It was hypnotizing
and I wanted to learn their secret! Dancing with fire and on the pole
gave me the opportunity to share my passion with large audiences. I
love the rush of pushing all my energy out to a crowd and receiving the
energy of the audience in return.
I balance out the intensity of performing and living in LA with my yoga
practice. In 2005 I took a long journey through Thailand, Bali and
India. I undertook intensive yoga training in India and I studied
Balinese dance and healing arts. My background in therapy and my
experiences with yoga and dance began to gel as a vision in my mind. I
dreamed of creating a space where women could enjoy their feminine
bodies and sexual self-expression.
Upon returning to the US, I did my yoga teacher training with Shiva Rea
at Sacred Movement in Venice, CA. I began to see the way that yoga
principals could be combined with pole dancing as an inspiring class for women.
I also undertook the Firegroove teacher training program for the art of
poi.
In 2006, I used my all of my training to developed a pole dance program and I began teaching classes. It continues to be an
amazing experience! I have learned so much from my wonderful students
and the amazing pole dancers I have encountered along the way. Over the
past three years, I have continued to build a program that is a
unique combination of fitness, dance and feminine sensuality.
Recently, I have started to play on aerial fabric. My current vision
is to open the doors
for every day women to learn and master a variety of exotic dance forms, from
belly dance and yoga to pole and aerial arts.
This work has been a journey of empowerment, passion and
self-discovery. I hope to share this with all women who dare to dance!
